The Joy in Revival

It has been almost a fortnight since I've blogged and it already seems like ages. A lot happened over the course of the past weeks, wedding and busy-being-a-wife the first ones. We visited many relatives - long lost and close ones. These few days have been filled with wonderful life experiences and beautiful teachers. I'm enjoying married life as much as I did my singledom and each morning is an assurance to that truth.

I and chucks (because Shakespeare said so) decided to dine out for lunch today, reflect on the past few busy days and romance over a pack of french fries. As we continued laughing, frowning and tensing over things the way we always did, I was suddenly reminded of one beautiful thing - that revival is a good feeling. Making time for some sloppy love amidst all the post-wedding haywire truly felt great. I thought of a friendship that was strained last year but reconciled a week before my wedding. I was thankful for all the relatives we visited after (god knows how) long and for all the relationships that were revived in the wake of our wedding.

Find of the week! - Pop-in-law's age old Hero pen
As we got home after a book haul spree (seven this time, sorry, not sorry) we decided to laze around and spend some alone time. Chucks turned to his TV and me, to reading and enjoying the newly purchased word-desserts. If I have not mentioned this before I do not want to delay anymore - I love fountain pens! (currently own a Staedtler). My daily journal is smeared with ink blots and I romanticise ink blotted fingers so much that on cranky days I stain myself  to feel best. I had admitted this craze to les husband and left it there; I mean it's not always someone remembers all your likes and dislikes even if its your boyfriend/husband. This hunt of mine to rediscover a Hero pen has been going on for quite a while but it has all been in vain until today. Pop-in-law was told of my wild sheep chase and he walked in with an old, ink smeared Hero pen (from his treasure trove of old stuff, of course!). Suddenly he appeared to me as a saint with a bright halo around and I said thank you, boggled my eyes in wonder and gratitude, mouth open, till my tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth. Revival! This is revival again! Reviving an old, unused ink pen that must've been out in our garage for ages, feeling cast-off, used and lonely. I ran and dipped it in warm water to cleanse it of all stain and dust and straightened the roughly crooked nib. I look forward to beginning an epistolary adventure with this pen.

It could be a relationship that has ended bitterly; an old favourite hobby that was left off when work seized your schedule; a habit that stopped being a habit when mobile phones and YouTube became the buzz; or a close-to-the-heart collectible that has stopped looking shiny - the trick lies in reviving it and in the effort to do so. Trust me it is not so simple but it definitely is worth all the awkwardness.

The long lost friend might abuse you, or the whole process of de-addiction from internet and technology can be a wreck but starting anew is always a rewarding challenge, an instant mood booster and brings out the best in everyone.

At the end of it all, in reviving things we break egos, we build character and we give life another chance.
