Morning Reflections

Just woke up from a flu-induced sleep. I've never felt so much like an underdog before. Its like this brain of mine is sending constant reminders, of the many times I quit, of emotional instability, and of my inability to return storge in the same measure I've been bestowed. I try to draw the bedroom curtains apart but there's not much to be seen from this view, apart from a grilled window that has unquestioningly borne the dust and gunk of years. How I miss family..

Last night's sleep was heavenly. Mostly because I had a wave of words and sentences storming right into my not-so-conscious mind and maybe, well maybe, also because of the meds kicking in. This thought of writing to J.D.Salinger and discussing his work The Catcher in the Rye kept rushing inThe fact that he'd been long gone didn't seem to bother me at all. To me he is still alive and around somewhere.

Waking up to the thought of beginning or finishing a book has always been refreshing to me. This morning, I woke up wanting to begin Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in an effort to beat the hovering negative thoughts, and that has lead to this post! I'm in love with this read-write-read cycle that has been empowering and accompanying me during all those lone, sick days. As the book awaits the touch of my fingers, I'm busy popping all the needed pills to keep me healthy for the day so I can forget everything else and just delve into the world of Chimamanda and stay on course with her. It's interesting how books make you forget all things material and just let your imagination fly into unexplored lands and take shapes of people and things in perspectives never envisioned before.

We all have something that gives us hope and strength to keep going despite daily struggles, frenzied work life or never-ending household chores. For me its some strong coffee or tea, good music and great books. It could be a whole different list for you but whatever it maybe, hold fast to it because positive starts truly guarantee positive endings.

Have a productive day ya'll!
