The Church Built by Law

Come to us all ye who thirst and ye shall thirst no more
For we shall fill your mouths with the bitter juice of bigotry and pharisaic devotion

Come and drink from this well that springs with an abundance of
Vine we have turned into vinegar, for flavor

Come, be partakers of this morsel that stands for redemption
Come, stab into it with your hands smeared with the scent of malice and adultery

"The daughter of any priest...if she plays the harlot, she profanes her father. She shall be burned with fire", said the law
But I thought He said love, not law
I thought He befriended the lowly, the prostitute and the outcast
I thought He preached forgiveness, not once, but seventy times seven
I thought He died for everyone, not just the elder or the deacon

Go to them all ye who thirst and ye shall thirst no more
And your epitaph shall read:
"Born into freedom, forced into religion and died deprived of love."

  1. "Take me to church
I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife"

    1. Never really thought of Hozier. But hell yes, this song is going to be my anthem
