Death Calls Out

I once saw what Death looked like.
It was while I jay walked on the streets
And a heavy car decided to punish me.
Death looked ugly and called out to me
In a scary baritone
But, thankful to the stars,
My life wasn't the price. Instead,
A little skin, little blood.

Last week I ran into Death again
He said he wanted to kiss me
And take me with him, love me
And sing songs to me.
I just wasn't ready
To run away to a far off place
For I felt I had not finished the chores
Mother charged me with.

Today Mother woke me up from a long sleep.
She said Death was here last night
To take me with him
But she stood in the way and waved him off, thank heavens!

It's a new day today
New dreams are about to bloom
Mother reminded me of my chores and stood in the doorway
To foil Death till the time came for me to be his flare.
